The 51st edition of the ‘Freccia dei vini‘ will feature the welcome presence of Riccardo Magrini, professional cyclist nicknamed «Il Magro» and winner of a stage in the Giro d‘Italia and one in the Tour de France.

Among the most important sporting events held in the Oltrepò Pavese area, a prominent place has always been given to the ‘Freccia dei vini‘. One of the most eagerly awaited cycling events in the provincial FCI calendar, this year in its 51st edition thanks to the constant commitment of the organising committee and the authoritative patronage of the Lombardy Region.

Reserved for the elite and Under 23 category, the "Freccia dei vini" will start from the beautiful Piazza Ducale in Vigevano to pass through Garlasco, Groppello Cairoli, San Martino Siccomario and, having passed Casteggio, will begin the climb up to Montalto Pavese to then descend towards Lirio, Montecalvo Versiggia. The demanding, yet beautiful, route will take participants towards Castana, Montescano, Montù Beccaria, Bosnasco, Cigognola and, after 167.50 km, will cross the finish line in Montalto Pavese.

The kermesse, which began back in 1972, has in its DNA noble elements such as sport and healthy antagonism, but also principles such as the enhancement of the territory with an eye to the future for the protection of the environment. A combination of elements that identifies the bicycle not only as a protagonist but also as a green ecological means of locomotion capable of enhancing Oltrepò with its tourist itineraries.

In the roll of honour (see attachment) are illustrious names from Italian cycling, starting with Giovanni Battaglin (winner of the first edition and best climber in the 1979 Tour de France), Giuseppe Martinelli (as an amateur, he won the silver medal in the individual event at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and then, as a professional from 1977 to 1985, won three stages of the Giro d‘Italia) and Emanuele Bombini (professional cyclist and Italian sports director who won a stage in the 1985 Giro d‘Italia).

Much of the race will take place in Oltrepò Pavese. This is one of the most important territories nationwide for wine production, whose history stretches back over the centuries to pre-Homeland times. Numerous castles, palaces, churches and artefacts can be found in this territory to illustrate the events that have characterised it. Environment, history and culture that over the centuries have constituted an absolutely unique cultural landscape, worthy of appreciation. In this context, therefore, the ‘Wine Arrow‘ event is an element that enhances the territory and a resource for the tourist visibility of the Oltrepò
