Discovering the Oltrepò Pavese on foot is a unique experience, combining nature, history and local traditions. Thanks to «camminandoInoltrepo», we can explore the most evocative paths in this territory, rich in enchanting landscapes and fascinating places. This time they are proposing a «Metodo Classico»-style itinerary starting from the Levante hamlet of Pietra dè Giorgi, ideal for immersing oneself in the beauty of hills, villages and vineyards.
‘camminandoInoltrepo’ takes us on a new “Metodo Classico” style walk in the Oltrepò Pavese area, starting from the main hamlet of Levante di Pietra dè Giorgi. The route covers a distance of 7.7 km and can be completed in about 1 hour and 35 minutes. The road is mostly paved, making the route suitable for everyone, even those who prefer more stable terrain. The walk begins and ends in the hamlet of Scorzoletta.
Our journey begins by leaving the car in the vicinity of Cantina Scuropasso, a perfect place to start the day and perhaps end it with a wine tasting. From here, we take the road in the direction of Frazione Garivalda, passing the turnoff for Frazione Fornazzo. Once we reach a fork in the road, we can choose to climb to the right towards the hamlet and continue along a well-travelled cart track, provided the ground is dry. This road will take us, skipping a couple of hairpin bends, back to the provincial road, or we can decide to go straight ahead.
Along the way, we pass Località Pragone, where we notice an old, faded sign reminding us of the ‘Temple of the Dog’, a pub frequented in years gone by. Continuing on, we enjoy some splendid views of the surrounding hills, until we reach the village.
Arriving at the crossroads of Piazza Garibaldi, we find ‘Là Butega dlà Piasà’, the only shop in the village. Here we turn left onto Via Vedaschi, a road that takes us directly to the Castle of Pietra dè Giorgi, an imposing construction dating back to 1012, which is well worth a visit, even if only from the outside.
Continuing along Via Vedaschi, we pass the last houses uphill to a new fork, where we turn left again. Without further detours, we reach Località Scagno and, after a steep descent, we arrive at Località Molino. From here, we rejoin Provincial Road 198 in the direction of Broni, following the comfortable pavement that runs alongside it. The road finally leads us to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso.
After passing the historic Cantina Vistarino, we conclude our itinerary by returning to the Cantina Scuropasso, where we can relax with a well-deserved wine tasting, thus concluding this wonderful experience surrounded by history, nature and good wine.
Happy walking to all!
