On Sunday 20 October in Bagnaria, in Oltrepò Pavese, the Municipal Administration, in collaboration with the local Pro Loco, is organising the 41st Apple Day. The day will be opened at 11 a.m. by Mayor Mattia Franza in the presence of the authorities.
The event includes the promotional sale of apples, a typical product to which the event is dedicated, by local producers in the fruit and vegetable market located in Piazza A. Moro Square in Bagnaria. Visitors who buy the delicious and tasty fruit at the fruit and vegetable market will be given coupons for an apple prize draw.
The draw will take place at 6 p.m.
In addition to the exhibitors throughout the day, vendors of typical local food and wine products and various other goods will animate a market, which will be held in the immediate vicinity of the Fruit and Vegetable Market, while the local Pro Loco will prepare a refreshment stand at lunchtime, all accompanied throughout the afternoon by live music with Ermanno.
Among the most widespread varieties in the area are the classic white Golden, the red Stark, the Pomella Genovese, the Renetta, the Annurca, the Fuji, the Champagne and the Granny Smith; other typical local seasonal fruits, such as pears, chestnuts and honey, will also be available at km0.
On the day, thanks to the collaboration of the ‘Calyx’ nature association, it will be possible to take part in a historical-naturalistic walk ‘Il Tempo delle Mele’ (The Time of Apples) to discover the territory of Bagnaria and its fruit-growing.
For children, there will be a saddle christening with a pony and inflatable games throughout the day.
Over the years, this event has increasingly taken on the prerogative of promoting and enhancing the local tradition and not only the apple product, which together with the cherry represent the niche products of the Municipality of Bagnaria, but also all the typical products of the area and in synergy with local producers, the Pro Loco (tourist board) and all the supra-municipal authorities, the aim is to continue the work of valorisation in such a way as to create an increasingly attractive showcase for tourists, who also come from outside the province to visit the beautiful and unspoilt area of the upper Oltrepò with its natural, historical and artistic heritage, and to create an ever greater induce for other craft-trade activities in the area.
