The Upper Trebbia Valley, located among the green hills of the Oltrepò Pavese and lapped by the Trebbia river, is one of the most fascinating and unspoilt areas of Lombardy. With its breathtaking landscape, the crystal-clear waters of the river and a nature that dominates unchallenged, this valley is an unmissable destination for lovers of hiking, wilderness and water sports

What makes the Upper Trebbia Valley so precious and fascinating is precisely the Trebbia River. Its course, which originates in Liguria and winds its way through varied and evocative landscapes until it flows into the Po, has created over time a series of naturalistic views of rare beauty. The waters of the Trebbia are characterised by a clear blue-green colour, particularly intense in the summer months when the sun gently caresses its surface.

Along the course of the river, it is possible to practise various outdoor activities that allow you to discover the beauty of the valley in an active way. Canoeing and rafting are among the most popular sports: travelling along the Trebbia along its bed, between rapids and calm waters, offers an immersive and dynamic experience, perfect for adventure lovers. But for those looking for something more relaxing, the Lido located near Ponte Organasco offers the possibility of swimming in complete safety, cooling off in the crystal-clear waters of the river.

In addition to its natural wonders, the Upper Trebbia Valley holds an ancient and fascinating history. The small villages scattered along the valley, such as Brallo di Pregola, preserve evidence of a past made up of traditions, a deep relationship with the land and a rural culture that has resisted the erosion of time. Medieval churches, castles and stone houses are tangible signs of a community that has managed to keep its identity intact over the centuries.

For lovers of nature and trekking, the Upper Trebbia Valley is a veritable mine of opportunities. The paths winding along the valley offer routes suitable for all levels of experience, from easy ones for families to more challenging hikes leading to the peaks of the surrounding mountains. One of the most fascinating routes is the one leading towards Monte Lesima, the highest peak in the Oltrepò Pavese, from which there is a spectacular view over the entire valley and, on clear days, as far as the Po Valley and the Alps.

Other paths lead through centuries-old woods, where you can immerse yourself in the silence of nature and observe the local fauna up close, such as deer, roe deer and numerous bird species. The Alta Val Trebbia is also the kingdom of mushrooms: in the autumn months, many mycology enthusiasts come to this area to collect porcini and other varieties of prized mushrooms, which grow luxuriantly thanks to the humid and temperate climate.

The Upper Trebbia Valley in the Oltrepò Pavese is a place that enchants for its natural beauty, its clear waters and the wealth of experiences it offers. From adventure along the river, to hiking in the countryside, to discovering historic villages and local gastronomic traditions, this valley is a perfect destination for those seeking a holiday of nature, relaxation and authenticity. If you want to discover a still unspoilt and little-known corner of Italy, the Alta Val Trebbia is definitely a destination to put on your list.
