In addition to being renowned for its scenic beauty and the many tourists it attracts, this mountain represents a great technological benefit for the Oltrepò territory and beyond.
Mount Penice, one of the highest mountains in the Ligurian Apennines, is located on the border between our territory and that of Piacenza and is easily reached from one of the two towns at its foot: Bobbio and Varzi. At its summit is the Sanctuary of Santa Maria, a very ancient ecclesiastical building, located in a particularly panoramic spot from which it is possible to enjoy a wide view of the two valleys that lie at the foot of the mountain: the Trebbia and Staffora Valleys.
The Penice Pass is a true paradise for nature and landscape lovers thanks to its uncontaminated and characteristic environment. Tourists arriving at its summit by motorbike or car can enjoy a good lunch or a healthy snack. The Penice Pass is a much-loved route for motorcyclists who take the approach road, experiencing its fantastic curves in a crescendo of emotions and then, having arrived at their destination, enjoy the unspoilt nature and landscape.
The summit of the mountain is also home to the Monte Penice transmission centre with imposing television and radio repeaters, including the RAI one that still allows transmissions to a large area of northern Italy. This plant began operating in 1953 and the first antennas were built as part of the Marshall Plan for the reconstruction of Italy after the Second World War.
It is precisely for this reason that Monte Penice has a strong impact both territorially and from a technological point of view, generating benefits for the population, both from a tourism and technological communication point of view.
