On Saturday 10 August 2024, the small and charming village of Calvignano, located between Casteggio and Montalto Pavese in the enchanting Oltrepò region, will once again host the eagerly awaited event ‘Let‘s turn off the lights and look at the stars together‘. This special evening, dedicated to observing shooting stars on the night of San Lorenzo, promises to provide unforgettable moments for all participants.
Starting at 8 p.m., the picturesque 18th-century courtyard of the civic municipality of Calvignano will be transformed into a meeting place for astronomy enthusiasts and anyone wishing to enjoy a unique experience. The village lights will be switched off, creating an ideal atmosphere for admiring the night sky in all its beauty. The vision of shooting stars will be facilitated by the absence of light pollution, offering an extraordinary natural spectacle.

During the event, in a specially-equipped hall in the town hall, there will be two sections entirely dedicated to Riesling, the world‘s most prized white grape variety. Four local wineries will be comparing their products, demonstrating the great potential of this grape variety cultivated in soils suitable for the production of excellent white wines. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about Riesling and to evaluate the different nuances that characterise this wine.
The I Caldrén - Calvignano association will help make the evening even more special, offering a risotto prepared with local ingredients and other gastronomic specialities from the area. The traditional flavours of the Oltrepò will blend perfectly with the wines tasted, offering a complete and satisfying culinary experience.
The magic of the night of San Lorenzo will be amplified by projections and telescopes provided by the Pavia Astronomical Association.
