In the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese, the social page camminandoinoltrepo stands out for its commitment to promoting unforgettable excursions. This time, it invites us to rediscover the legendary "Valle Buia", an 11.20 km route that transports us back in time and immerses us in fascinating nature. Following in the footsteps of Hannibal, who is said to have crossed this valley on his march towards the Apennines, let‘s venture out together on this journey of approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, which promises to give us unique emotions amidst vineyards, hills and forests.

Our starting point is Piazza Cagnoni in Broni, a charming historic centre that welcomes us with its typically Italian charm. From here we take Via Monte Grappa, beginning our route on an asphalt road that soon turns into a dirt road. This change of terrain heralds the variety of landscapes that await us.

We follow the road to the top of the hill in the hamlet of Colombarone, where we turn right and continue straight ahead following the signs for Castana. The road here is mixed, and a warning to take care in the presence of mud reminds us that we are in a hilly area where ground conditions may vary. This section of the route gives us spectacular views of Broni, Vallescuropasso and the numerous castles that dot the area.

Continuing along Provincial Road 45, we reach Frazione Palazzina, which we pass and then turn right at the first fork towards Frazione Casa Sotto. We cross this small hamlet and, when the road bends to the left, we leave it to take a cart track to the right. This path skirts a house with a lively dog population and, although it is initially steep and uneven, it soon softens, leading us into a serene and regenerating natural environment.

We continue along the path, keeping a relief on our left until we cross the asphalt road, where we turn left. After about 800 metres, we pass the hamlets of Pulice and Colombera and, before the bridge over the Scuropasso stream, we take the path to the right. This section of the path takes us to the foot of the hill, until we reach the hamlet of Valle Cima. Here, on asphalt, we head right towards Broni.

When we reach the hamlet of Valle Fondo, we take the path to the right of a neoclassical house. We remain on the right side of the canal until we reach the second small bridge, where we cross over to the other bank, immediately turning right and reaching the first houses of the Boriolo region. From here, we descend towards the centre of Broni, completing our route at the car park.

The walk in the ‘Valle Buia‘ is not just a hike, but a true journey through time and nature. "camminandoinoltrepo" guides us through historical paths and unique views, allowing us to rediscover the beauty of the Oltrepò Pavese and its legends. This route, with its variety of landscapes and fascinating history, reminds us of the importance of connecting with nature and the roots of our territory. The next time you want to escape from your daily routine and immerse yourself in an adventure, remember that the ‘Valle Buia‘ is waiting for you, ready to reveal its secrets and offer you an unforgettable experience.
