Oltrepò Pavese Barbera is a fine red wine, known for its bright ruby colour and intense aromas of morello cherry and violets. With a dry and enveloping taste, it is an excellent choice in both still and sparkling versions. It represents the excellence of the winemaking tradition of the eastern area of the Province of Pavia, on the border with Piacenza.

Oltrepò Pavese Barbera is a red wine that represents one of the wine excellences of northern Italy. With its accentuated ruby colour that tends to bright garnet with time, this wine is a true oenological jewel. Characterised by a fine, marked perfume, with hints of morello cherry and violets, and a dry, enveloping flavour, Oltrepò Pavese Barbera is a continuous discovery for the palate

Oltrepò Pavese Barbera is produced from the vinification of Barbera grapes (85% to 100%) and other vines such as Croatina, Uva Rara, Ughetta and Pinot Nero, together or separately, up to a maximum of 15%. This blend gives the wine a perfect balance of fragrance, structure and aromatic complexity. Careful vinification and care during ageing, which can last up to three years from the harvest, allow the Barbera to keep well and develop further nuances of flavour with the passage of time.

The Barbera grape is widespread in the easternmost area of the Province of Pavia, particularly in the municipalities of San Damiano al Colle and Rovescala, on the border with the Province of Piacenza. Other production areas include the Bronese and Cigognola areas, as well as the Losana Valley and surrounding hills. This region, with its unique climate and terroir, is particularly well-suited to the cultivation of Barbera, yielding high quality grapes that produce wines of great value.

The Barbera vine has Piedmontese origins and has been identified with a certain ‘Berbexinis’ vine, mentioned in a deed of 1249 in which the church of Sant‘Evasio di Casale rented land to a certain Guglielmo Crova, with the obligation to plant ‘bonis vitibus berbexinis’ on it. Since the early 19th century, Barbera has been present in Oltrepò Pavese and, over time, has become the symbol of local viticulture. The Oltrepò Pavese Barbera controlled denomination of origin (DOC) dates back to 1970, testifying to the long tradition and quality of this wine.

Oltrepò Pavese Barbera is distinguished by its bright ruby colour that turns to garnet tones with age. The bouquet is fine and marked, with notes of morello cherry and violets emerging cleanly. On the palate, the wine is dry and enveloping, with slight tannic perceptions and a medium aromatic persistence. These characteristics make Barbera a versatile wine, suitable both for those who prefer young and fresh wines and for those who appreciate more mature and complex wines.

Oltrepò Pavese Barbera is a wine that tells the story and tradition of an area dedicated to quality wine growing. With its unique organoleptic characteristics and versatility in gastronomic pairings, this wine represents excellence on the Italian wine scene. Whether for an elegant dinner or an informal meal, Barbera dell‘Oltrepò Pavese is always a winning choice, capable of conquering the most demanding palates and offering moments of authentic pleasure.
