The Staffora Valley is a scenic and cultural jewel that stretches between the provinces of Alessandria, Pavia and Piacenza, delineating itself between the Curone valley, the Oltrepò Pavese, the Tidone valley and the Trebbia valley. The journey through the Staffora Valley begins on the slopes of the Giovà pass, an area that is initially wild and impassable, caressed by the imposing peaks that surround it, mountains that not only offer a breathtaking natural spectacle, but also act as guardians of the traditions and history of this fascinating valley.

The Staffora Valley is rich in historical and natural attractions, a veritable treasure chest to be discovered. Among its architectural wonders are the Malaspina Castle and the Torre delle Streghe (Witches‘ Tower) in Varz, the Castle of Pietragavina and that of Oramala. These castles, silent witnesses to centuries of history, tell stories of nobility, battles and mysteries. In addition to the historical monuments, the valley boasts nature reserves of great beauty, such as the Monte Alpe Nature Reserve and the Le Torraie Nature Reserve, which offer the opportunity to immerse oneself in unspoilt nature, unique flora and fauna and spectacular landscapes.

One of the distinctive features of the Staffora Valley is its cultural belonging to the territory of the Four Provinces, an area characterised by common customs and traditions. This region is known for its rich repertoire of ancient music and dances, in which the Apennine pipe plays a central role. Among the villages that keep these traditions alive, Cegni, in the municipality of Santa Margherita Staffora, is particularly famous for its Carnival, which is still celebrated with a very ancient and evocative rite, involving the community in a journey back in time among traditional dances and music.

As you descend towards Varzi, the landscape of the valley changes from rugged mountains to gentle hills. This change creates a fascinating contrast and offers a variety of natural scenery that continues to enchant visitors. The valley then continues until it flows into the plains, where the Staffora stream joins the waters of the mighty Po river, creating an ideal habitat for many animal and plant species.

Along the Staffora Valley route, you will encounter numerous municipalities that are worth a visit. Among these, Bagnaria, Brallo di Pregola, Ponte Nizza, Cecima, Menconico, Santa Margherita Staffora, Godiasco and Val di Nizza are some of the most charming. Each village is immersed in an enchanting Apennine landscape and offers a unique opportunity for outdoor activities such as hiking, trekking and nature walks. These small towns are treasure troves of history and traditions, each with its own peculiarities and attractions.

Tourism in the Staffora Valley is an experience that allows you to embrace the natural beauty of the area, explore ancient trails and discover the history and traditions that have shaped this region. The valley invites visitors to be enveloped by the tranquillity of its landscapes, to breathe in the pure mountain air and to immerse themselves in the local culture. Whether admiring a medieval castle, walking along a nature trail or participating in a traditional festival, every moment spent in the Staffora Valley is an opportunity to create unforgettable memories.
