The Great River, the Po, has always been a symbol of life, culture and tradition for the communities along its banks. Among the most evocative and eagerly awaited events in this region is the Fiaccolata sul Po, an event that combines devotion, beauty and a deep sense of community. This year, on Saturday 15 June 2024, the Torchlight Procession on the Po reaches its sixth edition, promising to once again offer an unforgettable spectacle in the splendid setting of the Church of S. Gorgonio in the Frazione Parpanese di Arena Po.

Arrival of the Pilgrim Mother and Blessing of the Boatmen
At 20:00, the festive atmosphere is enriched with a deep spiritual meaning with the arrival of the Pilgrim Mother. This moment is highly anticipated and full of emotion, and will be followed by a blessing ceremony dedicated to the boatmen, custodians of the traditions and history of the Po, who will receive the blessing as a sign of protection and good omen for their activities on the river.
Holy Mass
At 9pm, the celebration continues with Holy Mass. This moment of recollection and prayer, officiated in the church of St. Gorgonio, will be an opportunity to reflect and give thanks. Participation in the Mass represents a bond between the community and its faith, uniting those present in an atmosphere of devotion and serenity.
The Highlight of the Evening: The Floating Lanterns and the Barcè
But the most eagerly awaited and evocative moment of the Torchlight Procession on the Po is scheduled for 9.30 pm. When the sky begins to darken and the first stars peep out, the waters of the Po will be transformed into a theatre of lights and reflections. Hundreds of floating lanterns will be released into the river, creating a wonderful floating light show that will gently illuminate the Great River.
The barcè, traditional boats used by boatmen on the Po, will also be decorated with lights and lanterns, and will ply the waters of the river in a silent and magical procession. This spectacle, which combines the natural beauty of the Po with the creativity and devotion of the community, is a moment of great emotional impact, capable of touching the hearts of those who witness it.
