In an increasingly frenetic and connected world, there is a timeless beauty in slowing your pace and immersing yourself in the tranquillity of nature. And if there is one place that offers this experience superbly, it is the Oltrepò Pavese. And who better than ‘camminandoinoltrepo’ to take us on a fascinating journey to discover this area rich in history, fresh air and fine wine?

Today, we walk with them towards Calvignano, a hidden jewel of the Oltrepò Pavese, where every step is an encounter with history, nature and local wine culture. The distance may seem short, only 9.5 kilometres, but every metre is full of charm and surprises.

We start from the cemetery of Calvignano, the starting and finishing point of our itinerary. Here begins our journey through the roads and paths that will reveal the treasures of this enchanting place.

The first noteworthy point along our route is the ‘Red Big Bench’ of Calvignano, a local icon that stands as an invitation to admire the surrounding landscape and let the beauty of the area captivate us.

Continuing along Provincial Road 188, we head towards the Oratory of S. Rocco, a place of devotion silhouetted against the sky. From here, our journey takes us to the picturesque locality of Oberga, an authentic jewel of rural architecture that welcomes us with its timeless charm.

Crossing a downhill dirt track, limited by a bar, we head towards the ancient manor of Castello, dating back to the 12th century. The ruins that remain speak of a glorious past and transport us back in time as we immerse ourselves in the history of this place.
Continuing along the Strada S. Biagio, we enter the wildest part of our itinerary, travelling along the southern slopes of Monte Ceresino. Amidst vineyards and woods, we allow ourselves to be enveloped by the unspoilt beauty of this land, always keeping our curiosity alive for what awaits us beyond the horizon.

The route takes us past the Giuseppina farmstead and then to the ruins of Ceresino, mute witnesses of a past rich in life and work. Crossing woods and fields, we follow the track that leads us along the Ghiaia di Montalto stream, immersing ourselves in the tranquillity of the surrounding nature.

We finally reach Cascina Possessione, where we can take a moment to rest and reflect, enjoying the view of the surrounding fields and the crisp air of the Oltrepò Pavese. From here, we can choose to further explore the sheep-tracks leading back to the hills, or head to the Travaglino Estate for a tasting of its renowned wines.

After passing the winery, we head towards the municipality of Calvignano, where we can admire the parish church and take a last look at the place we started from, gratefully remembering every step of our journey.
In conclusion, an excursion with ‘camminandoinoltrepo’ to Calvignano is much more than a simple walk: it is an experience that involves all our senses and leaves us with precious memories and a deep appreciation for the beauty and authenticity of the Oltrepò Pavese. Enjoy your walk!
