Let‘s explore the wild heart of nature together: exciting adventures among the Morcione waterfalls. A uniquely fascinating itinerary in a tourist setting that only the Oltrepò Pavese can provide

by Katiuscia Girgenti

After the incessant rain, the sun is shining today, and so I decide to take a short jaunt out of the wind, entering the woods to reach one of the hidden gems of our territory. The path is well maintained at first, at least as far as where the aqueduct of Crocilia, an ancient hamlet, runs, but then the vegetation thickens, among oaks, dog roses, junipers, oaks, wild prunus, becoming almost impenetrable, until the small secret place.

The forest is a carpet of primroses, violets, anemones, dog‘s teeth and in the buzzing from flower to flower, I also came across some oddly shaped trunks. Oh my God! It‘s not a log! It‘s a roe deer horn and a boar jawbone!

My antennae are twitching a bit with fear!!!

Some wolves certainly reign supreme here.

I wonder if a wolf or a bee is scarier on impact? Definitely scarier me!!! HIIHIIIIII!

The lapping of the clear water carries with it the voices of the rocks on which it breaks, as witnesses to the history of the place, from the Domain of the Dal Verme family, stories of brigands and gabelle to the most recent partisan battles.

I hear its noisy chorus in my soul and my flight is so melancholic, nostalgic at times.

At the same time, the water, with its gushes, invites me to play and I can‘t resist the urge to flutter through it, refreshing my wings and cheering my thoughts.  The pastures have been washed away by the flood of the stream and so the place is unreachable, but it is there, wonderful, I know it. I can hear them in the distance, the fascinating Morcione Falls.

I find it hard to resign myself to the idea of not being able to enjoy one of the spectacles our Earth has to offer; sure, I could fly, but my companions Zio Patri and our guide Mirna of Dimensione Appennino, unfortunately not. So we decide to turn back.  So we follow the water route that leads us to a mill. It seems, at first glance, that we have to ford to reach it, but flying higher, we discover another passage.

It is hidden in the foliage beneath the Dal Verme Castle in Zavattarello, and the feeling is that it seems to have been built to shelter rogues and smugglers.

Someone catches a glimpse of us from a window, but they abruptly retreat and my intuition tells me to turn away.

At the top of the path a sign indicates a place called ‘Le Moline‘ and in reason of what we have just glimpsed, it seems to me the beginning of a new story, all to be discovered....

"L‘Ape Meliflora & Friends" awaits you on 21/04 with "Legambiente" for the "Distretto del Cibo Oltrepò e Dimensione Appennino", to relive this flight together.
