In the evocative setting of the Malaspina Castle in Varzi, nestled in the hills of the Oltrepò Pavese, an unparalleled culinary celebration is being prepared: the Palio dell‘Agnolotto. This extraordinary event, now in its sixth edition, is a unique opportunity to savour the region‘s authentic gastronomic tradition, concentrated in the irresistible goodness of agnolotto, a meat-filled pasta that enchants the palates of anyone who has the privilege of tasting it.

Sunday 21 April 2024 will be the day when the Malaspina Castle in Varzi will welcome chefs, judges, guests and enthusiasts for a day of taste and conviviality. 

Leading the culinary dances will be expert chefs Silvano Vanzulli and Danilo Nembrini, flanked by a team of talented students, ready to delight those present with their masterful creations. The technical jury, composed of luminaries from the national and international gastronomic scene, will ensure a careful evaluation of the competing dishes. At the helm, we find Roberto Carcangiu, distinguished president of the Professional Association of Italian Chefs, flanked by renowned chefs such as Luigi Gandola, Stefano Marinucci and Rita Monastero, also well-known figures on television. With them, experts of the calibre of Raffaele Genovese, Walter Zanoni and renowned master pasta maker Mario Becciolini will ensure the highest quality and authenticity of the agnolotto on offer. The addition of CuorCuoco‘s creative touch promises to add a note of surprise and innovation to the competition. 

The real soul of this festival lies in the participants, the best restaurants and agritourisms in the Oltrepò Pavese area, each bringing their own interpretation of agnolotto and its preparation. Here are the protagonists who will compete for the title: 

  • Restaurant ‘Sasseo‘ in Santa Maria della Versa - Reigning champion and guarantee of undisputed quality. 

  • Agriturismo "Casa dei Nonni" of Zenevredo 

  • Osteria del Giuse" Restaurant in Stradella 

  • Scuropasso" Restaurant of Cigognola 

  • Poggiacolle" holiday farm in Montecalvo Versiggia 

  • Park Hotel Olimpia" Restaurant of Brallo di Pregola 

  • Caffè Torino" Restaurant in Varzi 8. "Ca‘ del Monte" Restaurant in Cecima 

  • Ravioleria San Giorgio" Bistrot in Varzi 

  • Dama" Restaurant of the San Gaudenzio Castle in Cervesina 

  • Crevani" farmhouse in Golferenzo 

  • Osteria il Giarone" Restaurant of Rocca Susella

These magnificent gastronomic locations are preparing to compete for the title of best agnolotto, in a competition that promises excitement, flavour and tradition. The event will not fail to amaze and delight guests, offering them an unforgettable journey to discover the culinary treasures of the Oltrepò Pavese.
