In the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese, a land of ancient flavours and breathtaking landscapes, there is a place just waiting to be discovered: Montescano, nestled in the suggestive Rile Monzone Valley. Here, amidst the rolling hills and placidly flowing streams, lies an excursion that promises authentic emotions and unexpected surprises.
Today‘s itinerary will take us on a journey of about 7 kilometres, from the enchanted atmosphere of the Valley of Fossils to the artistic suggestion of Marco Piovani‘s sculptures, immersing us in an uncontaminated and fascinating nature. The walk, which lasts about one hour and fifty minutes, is suitable for everyone, and is characterised by a mix of asphalt roads and rustic paths, although caution is advised if the terrain is muddy.
We start from Piazza Municipio in Montescano, the starting and finishing point of our route. From here, following the signs, we set off along a road that leads us to discover the natural beauty of the valley. Along the way, the Rile accompanies us with its constant murmur, as we go deeper and deeper into the heart of nature.
We cross small reservoirs, witnesses to the area‘s industrial past, and let ourselves be guided by the path that winds its way through meadows and vineyards, gently ascending to Casa Alberici. From here, we take an asphalt road that leads us towards Palazzina and then towards Broni, but not before being captivated by the works of art of Marco Piovani, which we encounter along the way.
We continue our journey through charming villages such as Monteveneroso, breathing in the authenticity of these enchanted places. We pass through the hamlet of Costiolo and turn left for Poggio Rebasti, where a path awaits us that will lead us downhill to the heart of Montescano.
Along the way, art and nature blend harmoniously, giving us unforgettable views and timeless emotions. Each step is an opportunity to discover the magic of this area, rich in history, culture and tradition.
We end our excursion with a heart full of beauty and a mind full of new discoveries, aware that we have left a light imprint on these enchanted places. And as we bid farewell to the Rile Monzone Valley, we carry with us the desire to return soon, to continue exploring and being amazed by all that the Oltrepò Pavese has to offer. Happy walking to all!
