In the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese, a land rich in traditions and breathtaking landscapes, hides a true treasure of nature: Zavattarello honey. This golden nectar, with its floral nuances and enveloping sweetness, is not only a culinary excellence, but also a symbol of identity and history for this fascinating region.

A history rooted in time

The roots of Zavattarello honey production go back more than 150 years, thanks to the resourcefulness of Count Luigi Dal Verme. Since then, this activity has continued to flourish, becoming one of the main ones in the area, supported by a favourable climate and the absence of pollution that has preserved the local ecosystem.

The growing interest in this extraordinary gift of nature led, in 2015, to the founding of the Associazione Agricoltori Oltrepò Montano (Oltrepò Montano Beekeepers‘ Association), a group of around fifty members passionately dedicated to the production of fine honeys. These beekeepers follow strict specifications that guarantee the purity and quality of the essences produced, which include chestnut, alfalfa, acacia, dandelion, woodland honeydew and millefiori.

Commitment to sustainability and protection of bees

Zavattarello honey is produced using sustainable beekeeping techniques that respect the environment and protect the health of bees. Local beekeepers are dedicated to responsible hive management, preserving biodiversity and the wellbeing of pollinating insects. This commitment to sustainability not only ensures the quality of the honey, but also contributes to the preservation of the local ecosystem.

A unique taste, an unforgettable aroma

Zavattarello honey is distinguished by its superior quality and unique taste, influenced by the variety of flowers and plants in the region. The delicate sweetness and pleasantly enveloping floral aroma make this honey a real treat for the senses. Each spoonful encapsulates centuries of history and tradition, testimony to the deep connection between man and nature in this generous land.

Beyond Zavattarello: the legacy of beekeeping in the Oltrepò Pavese

Besides Zavattarello, other towns in the Oltrepò Pavese are dedicated to beekeeping, keeping alive an ancient and precious tradition. Montalto Pavese, Menconico, Fortunago and Varzi are just some of the towns where it is possible to meet skilled beekeepers and discover other excellences of the territory. The honey culture is deeply rooted in these communities, handed down from generation to generation, and represents an invaluable resource for the region.

Zavattarello honey: a symbol of identity and beauty

Zavattarello honey is not just a culinary product, but a symbol of identity and beauty for the Oltrepò Pavese. Every drop of this golden nectar tells an ancient and precious story, interweaving the history of man with that of nature. With its unique taste and unmistakable aroma, Zavattarello honey continues to enchant palates and enrich the cultural heritage of this splendid region.
