In the enchanting heart of the Oltrepò Pavese, overlooking the village of Godiasco, stands the majestic Rocca di Montalfeo. An authentic jewel of medieval history and architecture, this ancient fortification offers a suggestive view of the Pavese hills, framing a landscape that seems straight out of a fairy tale.

A Millenary Heritage

The Rocca di Montalfeo is rooted in a past rich in history, having been an ancient settlement of the Malaspina marquises for almost ten centuries. Strategically located along the Via del Sale, the important trade route connecting Genoa and Milan, the Rocca was an integral part of the Malaspina fiefs.

During the Visconti and Sforza periods at the head of the Duchy of Milan, the Rocca was the scene of turbulent events. In 1375, Galeazzo II Visconti ordered the expulsion and subsequent destruction of the castle, marking an important chapter in its history.

Rebirth through the Centuries

Despite its destruction, the Rocca di Montalfeo has withstood the passage of time. Rebuilt over the following centuries, it has found new life thanks to a long and complex restoration conducted by the Faravelli family, who became its owner in 2003. The complex restoration process, completed in 2004, restored the Rocca to its former glory, faithfully preserving its medieval architecture and historical elements.

 Unique Architecture and Atmosphere

The Rocca di Montalfeo consists mainly of a main building flanked by the keep, creating an impressive structure that dominates the surrounding landscape. The main hall is a masterpiece of elegance, with a coffered ceiling and frescoed walls that tell centuries of history. The large rooms on the floor below, with stone walls and vaulted ceilings supported by majestic columns, add a touch of grandeur and mystery.

The tower, guardian of ancient secrets, also houses evocative rooms, completing the fairytale atmosphere that permeates the fortress. But it is not only the interior that impresses: charming tree-lined avenues lead to the northern panoramic terrace, offering a breathtaking view of the gentle Pavia hills and the lovely Italian garden that extends to the slopes of the hillock.

A Place of Meeting and Celebration

Today, the Rocca di Montalfeo is more than a testimony to the past; it is a living, vibrant place. After its restoration by the Faravelli family, the Rocca has become a centre for meetings, conventions and ceremonies. Its unique atmosphere offers the ideal setting for unforgettable weddings and private parties, welcoming guests in an atmosphere steeped in history and beauty.

The Rocca di Montalfeo is much more than just a medieval castle. It is a journey through time, an immersion in the thousand-year history of the Oltrepò Pavese. Its imposing architecture and suggestive details create an experience that goes beyond the visit of a monument; it is an adventure in the timeless beauty of a place that has withstood the wear and tear of time, emerging as a symbol of rebirth and perseverance. The Rocca di Montalfeo remains a treasure preserved in the Pavese hills, ready to fascinate and enchant anyone who steps through its ancient gates.
