Welcome to the heart of Zavattarello, where Christmas is relived in a fascinating immersion into the past. The Living Crib transforms the ancient mediaeval streets into a plunge into the 13th century, offering an authentic and enthralling experience. It will be possible to witness all this on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day afternoon.
In the heart of the enchanting village of Zavattarello, during the magical Christmas Eve and joyous St. Stephen‘s Day afternoon, a time portal opens, transporting visitors and residents to a remote era. This is the time of the Living Crib, an extraordinary experience that reawakens ancient traditions and re-enacts the Nativity in a setting enveloped in the evocative atmosphere of the Middle Ages.
Passionately organised by the ‘Presepe e Passione‘ Cultural Association, this event stands out for its dedication to bringing 13th century daily life back to life. The ancient stone houses and cobbled streets of the village become the stage for an extraordinary performance, where the past materialises in every detail.
Passing through the mediaeval alleyways, visitors come across vivid and authentic scenes: from the dwellings of yesteryear to the artisan workshops, everything is taken care of down to the smallest detail. The atmosphere is pervaded by the enveloping scent of freshly baked bread, the fresh flavour of new wine and the enchantment of traditions coming to life before their eyes.
The route to the Nativity shack is a journey through time, a series of scenes that recreate the everyday life of a bygone era. There is a re-enactment of the usual activities of the time: the craftsmen skilfully working the ancient tools, the farmers intent on their labours in the fields, and the loving care of the animals that populate the village.
The appeal of the Living Crib also lies in its interactivity. Visitors are not mere spectators, but active participants in this historical narrative. They can touch the spun wool, approach the sheep in the pens, savour the warmth of freshly baked bread and share the joy of a sip of new wine, as if they were truly immersed in a bygone era.
The Borgo Medievale of Zavattarello, during these days, is transformed into an ancient soul, into a Nazareth of yesteryear. Visitors, wearing a veil of emotion and wonder, find themselves involved in a journey through time, an experience that is etched in their memories like an unforgettable chapter in their own history.
The Living Crib of Zavattarello is not just a Christmas event, but an authentic celebration of tradition, spirituality and the timeless beauty of an era that, though distant, continues to live on in the hearts of anyone who has the privilege of passing through that magical portal of time.
