Welcome aboard with a new exploration with "CamminandoInOltrepò"! Today, we head for the Castle of Luzzano in the Oltrepò Pavese, and we will immerse ourselves in an adventure that mixes breathtaking views and millenary history.
Ready for a new journey through the enchanting Oltrepò Pavese territory? "CamminandoInOltrepò" will once again be our guide and take us to discover a hidden treasure: the Castle of Luzzano.
Our departure is from Mondonico-Chiesa. The route, which is about 9.7 km long and takes about 1 hour and 55 minutes, will take us along roads that offer a variety of landscapes: 55% asphalt and the remaining 45% gravel/earth.
We leave the cars in the clearing in front of the church and set off along the ridge road. We pass Croce di Sopra and Croce di Sotto and descend to a crossroads. Here we turn left, taking a dirt road that we follow without deviating as far as the milestones indicating the hamlet of Luzzano.
We follow the cart track on our right and soon reach one of the most suggestive panoramic points of the Oltrepò Pavese. Here stands the Castle of Luzzano, ancient in its origins but with its current 17th-century appearance. Surrounding this splendid building are the neoclassical church, the characteristic peasant houses painted in vivid shades of red and the 18th-century customs house in Provençal colours. The latter was erected by the Savoy family when in 1747 the Oltrepò Pavese passed under the Austrian rule of Maria Teresa.
After admiring this historical gem, we leave the Customs House to our right and continue along the Provincial Road. We pass the Casabella Restaurant and the locality of Mula. When we reach Campana di Ferro, we turn right in the direction of Rovescala. We cross the bridge over the Bardonezza River and keep right at the fork following towards Località Molino. After passing the Mr. Il Molino di Rovescala farm on our right, we continue on level ground to the crossroads where we turn left.
From here, we retrace our outward journey in the opposite direction until we reach our starting point at Mondonico-Chiesa.
