Recent studies conducted by The European House - Ambrosetti have revealed a growing phenomenon: more and more residents of Milan are seriously considering moving to Oltrepò Pavese. This in-depth analysis has revealed the reasons and preferences of those considering the move from a metropolis to a more rural setting.
The Oltrepò Pavese region, with its breathtaking views and the tranquillity of rural life, is becoming an attractive option for many Milanese wishing for a calmer, more accessible life. According to the recently conducted survey, 60 per cent of those interviewed are seriously considering a move to this area. The main reason? Houses with a garden here are similar in cost to a three-room apartment in the suburbs of Milan, offering more space at more competitive prices.
But what really makes people consider such a radical change? Besides the economic factor, the survey revealed that quality of life plays a central role in relocation decisions. This concept, however, is extremely subjective and varies greatly from individual to individual. However, some common aspects emerge.
Proximity to health services, such as pharmacies, hospitals and home care centres, emerged as a top priority. This need for immediate access to health support facilities surprised many, ranking first in the preferences with 63.1% of the votes, followed closely by the presence of organised distribution facilities, with 39.1%.
Finally, for those who would be willing to relocate to a rural area, three key characteristics emerge. 81.1% of potential movers emphasised the importance of greenery and the environment, followed by 73.6% who consider the cost of housing to be decisive, and 72.2% who rate the importance of personal services.
Oltrepò Pavese, with its combination of enchanting landscapes and affordable housing costs, seems to embody the ideal of a more balanced life for many Milanese citizens, who are attracted by the prospect of a rural life without giving up essential services and comforts.
