This time, our journey will take us to the discovery of Liro, a historic village with a thousand-year-old history. The hiking trail winds its way through its narrow streets, offering hiking enthusiasts the chance to explore this area, covering approximately 4.9/5.5 kilometres in about an hour.
The varied and evocative route begins at Piazza C, Battisti, from which we head towards Montalto Pavese. Crossing Via XXIV Maggio, we find ourselves in front of the Chapel of the Madonna del Rosario, a crucial point from which two alternatives unfold:
- Turn right and follow the cart track to the fork with a view of the riding stables. From there, we turn left and ascend until we reach the Cerrone road, passing through Località Costaiola.
- Turn left and follow a more direct path through Costaiola, even crossing perhaps the last tree of the native pear variety ‘Pér bus‘.
Following the route, once we reach the first house we turn left almost backwards and take a nice path down to Finigeto, continuing along the SP44 to the crossroads near Lirio. From here, we take the road to Palazzina, passing in front of the Sabaghina Farm and enjoying breathtaking views of the Scuropasso Valley, reaching Località Palazzina and the SP198. Once there, we turn left and after about 100m turn left again along a small asphalt road with suggestive gradients. Another short stretch and a lane on the right leads us to the statue of the Madonna del Vigneto, an area unfortunately in a state of decay but rich in history and spirituality. Picking up the path, we continue on towards Lirio, soon reaching the remains of the ancient castle, witnessed by the wall that runs along the road leading to the church. The parish church dedicated to S. Paolo and Casa Cavagna are not-to-be-missed stops before ending our journey at the starting point, with a wealth of emotions and unforgettable discoveries.
The excursion guided by "camminandoinoltrepo", with its variety of landscapes and the enchantment of the places crossed, offers an experience that goes beyond mere walking. It is a journey through history, nature and the very soul of this land, an invitation from "camminandoinoltrepo" to immerse ourselves completely in the Oltrepò Pavese and its wonders.
Enjoy your walk!
